August Rewind

I've been in kind of a reading slump lately.  I haven't allowed myself a lot of down time lately and I think that might be the culprit.  However, I did get caught up on latest of the Archie comics - Volumes 1-5. I love the Riverdale world so much and I'm counting down until Riverdale comes back and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina debuts.

I started watching the X-Files! I've seen so much fandom online and figured it would be my jam and it 100% is. I know I'm like 20 years late but this is one of the best shows out there. Plus, Fox Moulder reminds me of my all time old man crush, Richard Gere so its a win-win for me.

I've been all over the place lately. One of my favorite new podcasts I've discovered is Defrauded which is about fundamentalism specifically in the reality tv world. If you know anything about the Duggar or Bates families and love to listen to snark about them then this podcast is for you.

Painted Living room
My house is old - like 100+ years. It has a lot of layers and is need of some serious redecoration and renovation. The living room was covered in wood paneling; some of which were covered in deer/wildlife print. Probably the ugliest paneling I've ever seen.  My husband had previously convinced me that painting it wasn't the best solution but I threw caution to the wind and painted it anyway. I went with a soft gray and painted the trim white. It was a lot of work, but I love it and I feel happy and content every time I'm in that room.

Paint Party
My sister has a pretty great side hustle. Her and her husband refashion furniture and make fun signs and such out of wood.  She invited me and my mom over for a girls paint day and we made front porch signs. Mine features cats, of course. I don't live in the greatest part of town so I was hesitant to put it on my porch so it greats me in my mud room.

Weekend Routines
My husband has officially moved to weekends and I'm still figuring out my weekend routine. At first it felt really weird to spend so much time alone, but now it feels more normal and soothing. I've been getting a lot of things done and spending lots of time with friends. I do need to figure out a good weekend balance though. Lately I've been full steam ahead, making and crossing off massive to-do lists, working on house projects that by the time Monday comes around I'm exhausted. I think I need to make Sundays more of a relaxing day.

August was an amazing reading month for me. It helped that I went on my honeymoon and had an entire week to read by the pool/beach. Two of the stand outs would be The Anomaly & The Cheerleaders. Both were thrillers, but also completely different. The Anomaly felt like a mix of a ghost hunter type reality show & the movie The Descent. Super weird & creepy & mysterious. The Cheerleaders was more of a straight up thriller/horror novel. I finished it in one day and was hooked as soon as I picked it up.

August was a slower tv/movie month for me. I have not had time to watch a lot, mostly Bachelor in Paradise, which is my favorite reality show. It's just crazy, dramatic fun. I did also talk Jarrett into watching Fast Five on our honeymoon so that was fun. I was definitely more into it than him, but who cares. Memories right?

One of my favorite podcasts, My Dad Wrote a Porno, premiered season 4 at the end of the month. I spent a few weeks listening to older episodes so I could remember exactly where we left Belinda. I forgot how much this podcast makes me laugh. Most of my commutes were spent laughing until I cried, which honestly is maybe the best way to spend a 3 hour daily commute.

Six Flags
The girls had free Six Flags tickets they earned from reading at school that expired right before we left on our honeymoon, so we took a Friday and spent that day in the heat there. It was actually a blast. It wasn't super busy, we didn't really have to wait in long lines, and Morgan was amazingly brave and went on The Fireball, which goes upside down (pictured above). It was such a fun time to spend together as a family. I can't wait to go back next year.

Jarrett & I went on our delayed honeymoon to Puerta Vallarta Mexico. We stayed at Secrets Vallarta Bay, an adults only all inclusive. It was my first time out of the country & I fell in love with Mexico & all inclusives. I am planning to write a whole post about it with a ton of photos, but it was the most relaxing vacation I've ever been on. I can't wait to do it again.

Back to School
Emily & Morgan are officially in 3rd grade. Lately they seem to look super grown up. They have all these plans & ideas & just seem like tiny adults, less like my tiny babies. I can't wait to see what this year has in store for them.
